Porter Woman
Throughout our visit to China we continually saw people carrying items
attached to both ends of a pole. These poles were then balanced on one side of their
shoulder as they walked effortlessly through the streets. Our guide told us these are
called, “porters”. At a construction site we watched countless men using this
method to haul heavy buckets of sand, not a wheelbarrow in sight. At the free markets,
(farmers markets), these porters are useful for selling goods as well as transporting them
home.
